Reputation is a currency that is a truly a direct representation of the character of an individual and organization and is something that CANNOT be concealed.
No matter what, there are times when individuals, even those whom you love the most, that will try and cheat what has been built because they believe they exist within a place where they define the rules of anything and everything within their experience and THEY supersede the controls that have carefully been placed to ensure the protection of the blood, sweat, and tears that have been tirelessly utilized to create businesses, products, and commerce alike!
Unfortunately, as majority of us small business owners, entrepreneurs, artists, philanthropists, and government officials already know, you cannot steal what is not yours without repercussion, you cannot redefine rules within a structure in which you do not own, and you cannot dictate something within something you are not involved within.
Boundaries are healthy and when built properly, they ensure that all involved within a defined structure will benefit from the hard work that is continuously placed into that said structure (whether it be a business, charitable organization, community group, facet of government, etc).
Active controls are EVEN HEALTHIER because they provide fluid infrastructure within a defined structure which ensures all involved have the ability to generate their own conclusions, make mistakes, learn, and grow by applying the understanding of what the repercussions of their actions are to ensure those lessen as time trickles on.
Having boundaries and active controls within your personal life as well as your organization is a direct representation of the time, effort, and energy that has been placed into protecting everything you have built. It also helps identify the individuals who do not value you and everything you have done to get to where you are.
As somebody who believes they have done everything they can to establish what they believe is their best series of boundaries and active controls, it is well worth the hard work, effort, and energy required. Also, it is well worth letting go of the individuals that show their true colors during this process because you quickly realize they never cared about you, just what you could do for them.
